Adnan's Essay

Welcome to hell... Welcome to the Continent that no one has heard about... I'm now lying on my bed and the smell of coffee is coming from all directions and becomes all of our dreams which have been broken. Nothing matters except for surviving and cutting the olive branches for staying warm, or making the food that we are going to share with rats - otherwise they are just going to steal it.

Here days don’t get counted. We only know the days that brought us the sun to warm us, but the food line will steal all of that sunny day as we wait for food which is not even edible.

If you want to be a famous chef come towards us and switch the mouldy food.

Or if you want to be an inventor come and join us to make out of tissue paper and oil a candle for one night.

During the long months of lockdown we invited all the Samos community to join in a Essay Writing Competition. The topic of the 2 pages essay was an open question:

What do you want the world to know about refugees?

Participants could answer this question with complete freedom: they could talk about the conditions in the camp, their perspective on the situation, their daily routine, important stories they wanted to share, their wishes and hopes for the future.
We received 11 entries, all of them were praiseworthy and valuable. They have been evaluated by our language teachers based on creativity of content, vocabulary usage, orthography and argumentative structure.

Here is the essay wrote by Adnan, winner of the easy-medium category.
